Can you tell us about your background and how you came to be the Executive Director of ACIL?
Jeremy describes himself as a lifelong Miami Valley resident from Clark County who graduated from Tecumseh Local Schools and Springfield-Clark JVS. His career began as an independent care provider for individuals with disabilities. Following a serious health challenge, he transitioned into social work roles—including positions as a social service coordinator and case manager—before spending eight years in permanent supportive housing for unhoused individuals experiencing mental illness. "After a few interviews and meetings with the board, I was appointed as Executive Director in late 2017."
What inspired you to pursue a career in this field?
Jeremy was diagnosed with stage 2 Hodgkins Lymphoma in his early twenties, which prompted significant life reflection. Struggling to access help without insurance, he resolved that upon recovery, he would dedicate himself to community service. He completed his undergraduate degree at Antioch University Midwest while working full-time.
What are the most rewarding aspects of your role as Executive Director at ACIL?
The executive director finds fulfillment in witnessing the positive impact of services, collaborating with dedicated staff, partnering with quality organizations, and advancing systemic advocacy initiatives.
What challenges have you faced as the Executive Director of ACIL, and how have you addressed them?
Jeremy faced immediate financial pressure when ACIL experienced a 10% federal funding reduction shortly after his appointment. He proactively researched alternative funding opportunities and reduced operational expenses through facility relocation while maintaining service quality.
Can you share a key achievement or milestone that ACIL has reached under your leadership?
ACIL secured $264,000 in grant funding through Dayton's Recovery Plan to expand its durable medical equipment program and establish permanent facilities. The organization celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2024.
How does ACIL leverage technology to enhance the services you provide?
ACIL utilizes Zoom, Teams, and secure internet connectivity enabling virtual service delivery across its nine-county service area, improving program accessibility for individuals facing transportation or location barriers.
