They Are Not Waiting for Permission
A new survey found that workers are so eager to use AI at work that they are paying for it out of their own pockets. They are not asking IT first. They are not waiting for a company policy. They are signing up on their phones, putting it on a personal card, and using it to write emails, look things up, and summarize documents.
That is not people goofing off. That is people trying to get their work done. If the company does not give them a tool, they will find one.
Hiding It Is the Real Risk
The tool they find is usually a free personal account. Anything they type into it leaves the building. Customer names. Quotes. Payroll questions. The email they are about to send a client. You never see it, because they are not supposed to be using it, so they keep it quiet.
Banning AI does not stop this. It just pushes the work onto personal phones, where you have no say at all.
The One Rule to Remember
Give your people a company AI tool and a short written policy, so they do not have to hide what they are already doing. If you do not, they will bring their own, and you will never see what they put into it.
The policy does not have to be a binder. It has to say, in plain language, which tool the company pays for, what is fine to put in, and what has to stay out.
How WolfTech Helps
We will sit down with you and write that policy. Then we set up the tool on company accounts, not personal ones, and walk your staff through it so they know they are allowed to use it.
If you already have Microsoft 365, we can turn on Copilot. If your people already like another tool, we can put that on a company plan instead of a personal credit card. Either way, your information stays in an account you control.
If you want to get ahead of this, contact us and we will help you put a policy and a tool in place before your team builds their own.
